The Forgotten Irish Project & The Reminiscence Project
Irish Community Care Manchester, reaching out to Irish people living in isolated and reduced circumstances or ‘lost’ in the system through hospitalisation, residential or nursing care. Re-establishing links with relatives if and whenever requested and working closely with hospital bereavement centres, police and services in Ireland to trace relatives for deceased with no information of next of kin. When required, providing a dignified interment to Irish Community Care plots in Moston, Southern and Gorton Cemeteries. Thanks to the generosity of the community, local business persons and funders, we are able to continue to provide these much needed services to those who would otherwise remain outside the community.
During 2009/10 a volunteer took on the role of establishing a postal and pen friend service for self referrals and referrals from Social workers of isolated Irish born individuals in residential care.
